FIELD STUDY 2- DAY 13: "Learning is not compulsory... neither is survival." -W. Edwards Denim (7:00 am- 12:00 nn)
Hello, Diurna!
I got late today, sad to say. However, I arrived before their first period class started. With their enthusiastic gestures and greetings, section Azalea greetest me good morning, and so am I to my CT. The next thing was my CT started her time in giving the class a summative assessment for their listening lesson.
As we had our listening activity yesterday, wherein students were given time to listened to a news report and will get important details that would answer to the guided questions. They were advised yesterday to study their lesson so they can answer the summative test, but unfortunately some were not able to study because as they reasoned out they were busy for the other subjects. Still, ma'am gave them minutes to study.
Later on, the given time for them to study the lesson is over. With that, ma'am Bigcas gave them the printed sheet and advised them to start so they would be able to answer before the time given. Azalea students were really focused in answering the summative because they were able to study their lesson thoroughly. Hence, many got the passing score of 15 and above since it was 20 items. They were told to get at least 75 of the score so they would know what will their be. After 8:30 am, we headed to section Catleya for the second period class.
I took over the class as what ma'am Bigcas told me to still practice and to be ready for my future endeavors as an aspiring teacher. As I entered Catleya's room, everyone stood up and told their other classmates to ready themselves in greeting me. So, I greeted them good morning. I asked them if they are ready for their summative test, many replied "Dili ma'am. Wala mi ka study po kay nag buhat mi ug assignments sa ubang subjects."
With that, I told them that "I've been there and done that reason. But still our teachers before and until now would not accept that reasons because we were told that as a student we must learn to manage the time even it is impossible, we don't have any other choices because we are still students, we are bound to do learn how to be flexible in every subject and assignment from different subjects. And there will be a lot more when they will become grade 8 onwards. That will serve as your training guide in College and in life in reality."
However , I still gave them ample time to study and at least read their notes so they would not get a low scores. Everyone listened and hurriedly get their notes and read it. I just hope they get my point. After the given 10 minutes, I told them to keep their notes and we will start the summative test. Unfortunately and as expected, only few got the passing scores for this summative test and most of it are the girls from the back. I said congratulations to them and told that they did their best for them to be motivated.
After that moment, I waited for 9:45 for the third period class in section Begonia-SPA. I was still in-charged in giving them the summative assessment. They were much advised yesterday so as expected they are ready to take the test. However, to give fairness I gave them 5 minutes to review their notes so they won't fail at least. But, unfortunately others still got low scores and few got an almost perfect scores at least. We still can't control that to happen especially when others were preoccupied from other things.
This goes same to section Daffodil, last period for the morning. In which I also gave them time to study and prepare themselves to answer. After the given time, they started answering the items. Some asked for the meaning of a certain word in the activity. Right after they finished answering, we checked and I recorded their scores. Still many got a low scores. However, I gave them claps and congratulations in giving their best.
Then, I had my lunch break for 40 minutes before the first period class will start at exactly 12:45 because I decided to make a whole day duty for my absences. I hurriedly ate my lunch so I won't be late.
Later on that moment, I went directly to section Gladiola to have them answer the assessment. I also gave them minutes to study before we start. To be fair to them even I reminded them yesterday that we will have an assessment. They were noisy reading their notes and some were just busy chitchatting with their seatmate, for the nth time I told them to keep silent but they were not listening. So I cut the time and told them to keep their so we will start.
After they answer, we checked and recorded their scores directly. And as expected only two of them got an almost passing score. None of them passed, so I reminded them with their behavior and actions.
After my time ended, some of them asked if I will be with them tomorrow. I somehow felt flattered because one of them said that I am kind to them and pretty too. However, I still remind them that they should try again their best for the next activity/tests that they will have in English so they will have good grade at the end of the day. I also congratulated them for today.
On the other hand, I thanked my CT for the trust and experience she gave me today in handling her classes. G for more!
Goodnight , Diurna!
